Well Andrew made it all the way to Day 2 at daycare before he got sick.
Tuesday afternoon, I went to pick him up from daycare and they said he had vomited twice (2:40pm and 3:00). He was on his last change of clothes. I brought him home and as soon as I got him out of the car seat, he threw up all over me and himself. I took him inside and put him in my big garden tub in the bathroom so I could change my clothes. I then took him upstairs to give him a bath. Fresh cleaned up, we went down stairs to rock. A few minutes later he was vomiting again. He would vomit about 10 more times before Jill came home.
I called her at work and told her to pick up some Pedialyte.
Andrew tried one sip after she got home and that provoked an immediate throw-up.
I had Jill call her pediatrician in The Woodlands as Andrew was clearly becoming dehydrated. She did not order any medication over the phone but suggested we take him to the closes children's hospital. Lucky for us there is a Children's Medical Center off Preston Rd. & Legacy Drive.
Andrew threw-up on arrival to the Emergency Room and they gave us an air-sickness bag to use for him. Jill was filling out the paperwork and it basically takes both hands to wrangle a weak 9 month old..I don't know who the ER admissions clerk thought was going to hold the air sickness bag. So Andrew threw up in his blanket and we cleaned him up the best we could.
He eventually was seen. The doctor prescribed a KUB (Kidneys, Ureter, Bowel/Bladder) xray. She also ordered some Zofran, an anti-emetic, to be given to him orally. Then after 20-30 minutes we could start introducing Pedialyte to see if he could keep it down. If he couldn't then they would need to start an IV to replenish his fluids. The KUB was negative, except for the stool he had right at the anal cuff. (Andrew hadn't pooped for a couple of days..so weren't sure if this was the cause of his vomiting).
By 9:30pm Andrew was perking up after 4 ounces of Pedialye and we could finally get a couple of smiles out of him. It was very much past his bedtime so once we got him home and cleaned up it was off to bed. Jill slept in his room (on the bottom bunkbed) to make sure she could get to him quickly in the middle of the night.
Today (WED) and we've moved on from vomiting to diarrhea.
Andrew is doing pretty well tolerating his Pedialyte and I introduced a few ounces of formula at noon for some added nutrition. He's enjoying a long nap right now!
