Day Trip to Paris

Monday was Martin Luther King Day and I did not have to work, so I took Mom and Dad on a road trip. Our first stop would be Paris, TX. (about 1 hr 35 minutes from The Colony) We arrived at lunch time and drove to Crawford's "Hole in the Wall" for lunch. Per TripAdvisor.com, it was rated the #1 of 84 places to eat in Paris,TX.    This cafe is only open 10am - 2pm. The place was steadily busy for our entire visit.

We then drove the the Texas version of the Eiffel Tower. Local residents like the humorous slogan "Second Largest Paris in the World." Following a tradition of American cities named "Paris", a 65-foot (20 m) replica of the Eiffel Tower was constructed in 1993. In 1998, presumably as a response to the 1993 construction of a 60-foot (18 m) tower in Paris, Tennessee, the city placed a giant red cowboy hat atop the tower. The current tower is at least the second Eiffel Tower replica built in Paris; the first was constructed of wood and later destroyed by a tornado.

Next door to the Paris Eiffel Tower is the Red River Valley Veteran's Memorial.
It has to be the largest Veteran's Memorial I've seen to date (even larger than Pearl Harbor)
and the RRVVM is only about 60% complete. Here is the link for more info: http://www.rrvvm.com/

We left Paris around 1:15pm and drove to Sulphur Springs, TX (about 35 minute drive South) to visit
the Southwest Dairy Museum

The Southwest Dairy Museum and Education Center is located in Sulphur Springs, Texas, and serves as the headquarters for the many activities sponsored by the Southwest Dairy Farmers. The objective of the Museum is to preserve the history of the Southwestern dairy industry for the enjoyment and education of generations to come.  This 10,000 square foot facility is a typical dairy-farm style building featuring a five-story silo that houses a conference room. One of our main exhibits is a series of historical vignettes that show the life of a dairy farm family before electricity came to rural America. There is no admission charge to the museum.

At the end of the museum tour, is a small soda fountain, where we took a break and enjoyed some home-made ice cream cones. YUMMY!

The weather cooperated with temps in the upper 60s and low 70s.  We arrived home just before 5pm.
