Child Adirondack chairs

When visiting a local flea market, I found a vendor (Cedar Leisure Designs - Sanger,TX)
that made child size adirondack chairs so I was able to order two of them $60each.

I hope the grandkids will love them.
I know they are sturdy and won't tip over so we will be keeping them safe & sound on the concrete.

Fake Cake

Jackie needed to make a fake cake as a prop for the musical "Company" she is working on.
She brought over a couple of styrofoam circles and Doug mixed her up some joint compound and she "frosted" the cake.
The next day it was dry so she spray painted it brown to look like chocolate.

The third day she made decorations for the top of the cake.
Pretty realistic looking but it would not taste very good!

Gospel Sing - July 10th

The purpose of our Iowa trip was for Jackie to sing at the 3rd Annual Fonda Arts Center
"Gospel Hymn Sing"

This is the flyer that was posted for the event.
Jackie performing during one of her songs.

Jackie sang three pieces at  this event
1) Just a Closer Walk With Thee
2) We are Climbing Jacob's Ladder
3) A Heavenly Celebration Medley (There is a Land That is Fairer Than Day, O That Will Be Glory, Do Lord, When the Roll is Called Up Yonder and When the Saints Go Marching In)

The videos are too large to post here. I will try to post them to YouTube for you to review.

Trip to Iowa

I wasn't sure we would be able to make our trip to Iowa for the Gospel Sing event at the Fonda Arts Center. But luckily our illness lasted about 12 hours.

Wednesday night, Karl drove right through Dallas without stopping. He had decided to go on ahead without us as Jackie & I weren't sure when / if we would be up for traveling. Karl arrived in Fonda on Thursday afternoon.

Thursday morning, Jackie and I fell perkier so we rented a car one way (Frisco, TX to Fort Dodge, IA)The road trip was very pleasant even though we didn't feel like eating much so we saved a bunch of money on the trip not having to stop and eat.  We stayed overnight in Liberty, Missouri and arrived in Fort Dodge at 12:45pm.  My parents picked us up in Fort Dodge. We went out for a light lunch at the Village Inn (I had a small amt of mashed potatoes/chicken pot pie) (Jackie had one small pancake) We arrived in Fonda by 3pm.
It was so nice sitting outside enjoying the quiet. Right Jackie!

Grandma Lyla had fixed way too much food for us sickies so I think the Veencamp family ended up with all the leftovers.

Saturday, we went to Pomeroy for the All School Reunion/Homecoming parade.
The parade was full of old/new tractors, vintage cars, a few ponies, alumni floats and of course a couple of local business and politicians.

I took lots of photos and we caught lots of candy. We headed back to the house for a sandwich and then drove to the rural cemetary where mom & dad's new memorial headstone was placed.
We then drove to Fort Dodge, to visit Uncle Martin @ Trinity Regional Hospital.

Back at home for dinner - one of my favorite meals growing up as a child.
Round steak, rice & gravy with biscuits. YUMMY!!

It was a perfect day!

Sunday was the day of the Gospel Sing event.
The Fonda Arts Center presents its Third Annual Gospel Hymn Sing, Sunday afternoon, July 10th, starting at 2:00. This will be an afternoon of interactive sing-along of favorite hymns, punctuated by vocals by guests Jackie Kiefer of Dallas, Texas, Eric Howard from Fort Dodge, and duets by Myrv Samuelson and Mary Mattoon from Pocahontas/Fonda, and Humboldt, respectively. Not to be outdone, Fonda will share its talents with contributions from Gloria and Randy Mobley, Larry Heschke, and the Vacation Bible School Singers! Denise (Kuklenz) Veencamp of Madrid will be accompanying on the piano, and Sherry Gustafson accompanying on the organ. Master of Ceremonies will be Lyla Kuklenz, who, as in years past, will weave it all together for an afternoon of music, memories, and camaraderie.

After the Gospel Hymn Sing, we packed up the truck and headed south.  We stayed overnight in Overland Park Kansas and then drove the rest of the way home on Monday.

It was an action packed few days..but lots of memories were made!
